Best Road Trip In Kerala

Bike Trip to Malakkapara- Via Athirapally, Vazhachal

The best view of the entire trip- View of Peringalkuth Reservoir from the Hill tops of Malakkapara

A lot has been said about the beauty of Kerala. Well, am no stranger here as this happens to be my birthplace and a land I have several fond memories attached with.It was on Wednesday I got a message from my friends whats app group, They asked about plannig a trip somewhere then i suggested the Malakkapara trip and we planned the same for Sunday Morning.

The sunday has to come,i wake up early and go to bath. Then we Start the journey at 7:15 am.We reached Vazhachal check post by 9.45 am and completed the formalities there. The entire stretch from Vazhachal to Malakkapara is 44 km. The route was really wild. It was thick woods and Elephant dung was all over the road. Surprisingly couldn’t spot any birds and Animals during the ride(except monkeys).

I have had a great time recounting my bike tour from Thrissur to Malakkapara(via Athirappilly). The ride from Chalakkudy to Malakkapara was lovely! I passed through the dense forests and waterfalls and the entire route is well with trees making it a very comfortable and enjoyable ride. I was little doubtful also whether to take this route as any mishaps, even a puncture, would turn out to be treacherous in this route.

We reached Malakkapara Check post at 12:15pm where we need to register our details and hand over the pass obtained from Vazhachal. This is the Kerala Tamilnadu border and the forest cover thins from this points. Malakkapara is a small town area with couple of provision stores and plenty of Home stays.

Then we move to Sholayar Dam and the view of the reservoir was beautiful. It was very huge
We were also burning with hunger and the first thing we had to do was to eat something. There were not much hotels in the Malakkapara, it is a small town so we check for the kerala hotel for had tasty food

After lunch we start the journey for return at 1:15 pm.The return travelling by same route because we both are very tired,it was our first long trip. Some people take valparai-sholayar route, but it was very long and experienced riders can ride through that way for long time. Then we reached Thrissur at 6:00 pm. The total journey take about 250 Km

The route was pretty filled with all essentials for a long ride. Water falls. Streams, curvy road, wilderness of the jungle, wild life, greenery, Dams and reservoirs, viewpoints , tea estates and plantation, hair pin bends, Plains and what more we could ask. I would recommend this route for the ones who want to test their courage and riding skills.
